Gladiator Movie Review

February 8th, 2010

Ridley Scott has had its ups and downs in his career as director of Hollywood had to hit the heights with the sci-fi classic "Alien" and "Blade Runner", and low, with films like "Legend" and "1492: The Conquest of Paradise "and mediocre hits like" Black Rain "and" Someone to Watch Over Me. " But it was not until "The Gladiator", where he read permanently questions about his reputation as a director seriously and it is not difficult to see why. This film has daredRelaunch of the epic Roman period and are able to do with some breathtaking images, shows beautiful and signs, and large scale. Scott has the record as saying that enjoys making movies that make a world "for rent". With this film gets to do just that, rendering ancient Rome in all its glory and brutality, said civil society otherwise. "Gladiator" is a great Hollywood epic scale, which is immersed in his world, and takeBack in another time and place.

"Gladiator" begins with an overview of our main hero, Maximus (with the support system of power played Russell Crowe), a Roman general who leads troops of Emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) in a big battle for Germany . The Indians a struggle, but no match for the professional brutal Roman army. After the battle, Maximus Emperor of trust that would have the power to hand after his death, and his first actin order to Rome a republic again. The son of Emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) does not like this at all, and a jealous rage, kills his father and takes control of the empire. Commodus and Maximus is reduced accordingly condemned to death. Maximus escapes his execution, but ends up in the slave trade, which eventually becomes a gladiator who fights for his master Proximo (Oliver Reed). It is not long before Max found the Colosseum and a flood of games for the emperor,Maximus sees his chance for revenge on Commodus, the Roman people to revolt against him, kill him before he finally, in a duel arena principal.

The story of "Gladiator" is not particularly new, is the central character is the revenge of himself, but is set against the life and times of the Roman Empire. The story is not unique and there are some moments when you could be the script, the filmmakers have worked a bit 'more. However, where the film really shines inBroad-sweeping visuals, strong characterizations, and the great show altogether. This film is a feast for the eyes, all that is specified in a spectacular, with the re-creation of ancient Rome, as pending. Tilting shot reveals the Colosseum in the background and then the point fund for the thousands of people in the street, is nothing short of spectacular. The games in the Coliseum on behalf of all the most important pieces, instead of the agreed date (with the exception of an open war), in the film, andare spectacular. Sequence includes a particularly good ex-gladiator Maximus, while the Tigers to avoid a few battles. The composition of the shots in this series are very beautiful, and visually represents what Scott has tried to pass through Rome, the picture is nice, but what is it brutal and vulgar. First meeting Maximus' at the Coliseum with his team is excellent, especially how it ends frustrating with Maximus, Commodus, when the crowd votesto keep him alive.

Ridley Scott together a stellar cast for this epic novel. Russell Crowe is at the top in a dominant performance as Maximus. Everything revolves around him, and he carries the film sovereign. The supporting cast is impressive. Joaquin Phoenix gives a little 'slimy, ugly characters in Commodus, many bad things, not only because he felt no contempt or for him. Oliver Reed as Proximo Master slave Maximus, who was once honoreda slave himself. Richard Harris perfect as the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, and Connie Nielsen is great, as his daughter. Perhaps a comment in relation to these benefits, which were struck me as odd is that everyone speaks English with the correct accents. So that is the piece with a sense of infusion of elegance, but since the Romans speak with British accents was a bit 'weird. It 'only a little criticism for the most part, you did not notice as she was draggedthe epic nature of this film great.

"Gladiator" is an epic large old-style Hollywood corner with modern visual effects present, a visual and artistic triumph, and brings you back into the world of ancient Rome, although it is not the story more inventive and unique.

Recommend Your Teens From 10 films before they were born

February 7th, 2010

When I was a teenager when I wanted to be an old film I had to wait until it happened to air on one of the few channels available on TV. Now I can recommend old (compared to their birth), the films in my youth, and thanks to the DVD and cable TV, which can immediately be seen.

There are so many movies that I liked very much that I now think young people to enjoy. I think it's a great idea to recommend these for our young people. If we look> Film, along with our kids or watch with friends and talk right after a great bond with experience had been that.

In my list you'll notice that I left the previous films, because my children, unless they watch the movies very old and tend to rise, which they completely pop-culture radar. Even before the mid-seventies, there were many fewer films made for a young audience. I'm not the film thathave begun to show your children when they were children.

Here is my list of top 10 movies to recommend to young people before they were born () in no particular order:

1. The Princess Bride

2. Groundhogs Day

3. The Breakfast Club

4. Dirty Dancing

5. Say Anything

6. Aircraft

7. Sixteen Candles

8. Dead Poet's Society

9. Ferris Bueller's Day Off

10. Young Frankenstein

If you have any suggestions to add toList, please let me know. I'm sure I forgot some excellent movie. If I get enough suggestions, I have a different list.

The Lady in Red Review

THis movie I watched when I was quiet younger. I belive in the early eighties. I was amazed by the story and all the plots and turns. Great vinatge wear, and good action. I have looked a long time for this movie, usually in Movie stores, they always refer to the movie with Gene Wilder. I am glad amazon has it and will be mine soon. Thanks

The Lady in Red Overview

Pamela Sue Martin kicked off the goody two shoes from her Nancy Drew image to play the feisty farm girl with Hollywood dreams who walked out of the Biograph on the arm of John Dillinger the night he was killed by the FBI. John Sayles wrote this depression-era gangster drama, loosely based on the real story of Polly Hamilton (renamed Polly Franklin for the film), and stuffs plenty of sex and social commentary around a surprisingly faithful recounting of the real-life event. Martin transforms from naive young thing to brassy hustler without losing her sweetness, and Robert Conrad is quite the gentleman hoodlum as Dillinger, but the unsung hero of the piece is Robert Forster, uncredited but indelible as a hit man who falls for fallen woman Polly. Colorful, action packed, and full of underdog spunk, this is exploitation moviemaking with a populist sensibility. –Sean Axmaker

Grand Theft Auto

February 4th, 2010

Grand Theft Auto Review

One thing you will always get when you watch a Roger Corman film is a healthy helping of cheese. It doesn’t matter who stars in the film or what sort of genre film it is; you just know what you’re about to see will exude that instantly recognizable low budget fragrance. “Grand Theft Auto” probably ranks in the top ten of Corman classics, not because it is better than any of the other schlock productions carrying the Corman tag but because it is the first film directed by Ron Howard. In case you just arrived on the planet, Howard played Opie Taylor in the rural themed series “Andy Griffith” before moving on to an even more successful stint as Richie Cunningham on “Happy Days.” Nowadays, he’s a big shot director and producer in Hollywood. Ron Howard’s film career may never have gotten off the ground if it weren’t for Roger Corman casting the young man in “Eat My Dust!” and “Grand Theft Auto.” Howard got the directing job when he agreed to forego a salary if Corman would let him direct. The rest, as they say, is history. Regrettably, although I’ve had some enjoyable experiences with a few other Corman films-”Humanoids From the Deep,” as an example-”Grand Theft Auto” is not a great film. It is, however, vastly superior to “Eat My Dust!” in nearly every aspect.

“Grand Theft Auto” once again finds Ron Howard behind the wheel of a car with a girl. In this movie, Howard plays the poor but saintly Sam Freeman, a guy who just wants to marry Paula Powers (Nancy Morgan), the daughter of a wealthy would be politician named Bigby Powers (Barry Cahill). When Paula comes home to announce her plans, the parents go through the roof. Dad goes so far as to forbid his daughter to marry such a common man, which results in the two making a run for it in Bigby’s Rolls Royce. When Paula’s rich former boyfriend, a goof by the name of Collins Hedgeworth (Paul Linke), finds out about his girl heading for the chapel without him, he calls into the local radio station and offers a hefty reward for their capture. Predictably, a whole assortment of oddballs hears about the cash prize and takes to the streets in an effort to bring Sam and Paula down. You’ve got Ace (Clint Howard) and his dorky buddy tooling down the highway in a hotrod, a gang of private detectives hired by Bigby Powers, a greedy preacher in a stolen cop car, and Collins’s mother Vivian (Marian Ross!) all getting in on the chase. Too, the local disc jockey, Curly Q. Brown (Don Steele), oversees the unfolding fiasco first from his comfy studio and later from a helicopter circling above the madness.

Car crashes, reckless driving, and bad attitudes towards law and order dominate “Grand Theft Auto.” And really, would we want it any other way? Watch Collins Hedgeworth smash up several expensive cars chasing his love! Watch Marion Ross ham it up as the snobby Vivian Hedgeworth! Watch Ron Howard chuck his Richie Cunningham image as he actually raises his voice to another human being! Watch a truckload of hicks chuck dynamite at Opie Taylor! It’s all in good fun, and it’s done much better than “Eat My Dust!” Instead of endless shots of cars racing around the streets of a small town, “Grand Theft Auto” actually takes the action out on the freeway as the two lovebirds attempt to make it to Las Vegas before their enemies capture them. Just in case crunching metal and tires kicking up pounds of dust in the desert starts to bore, you get a subplot about the media feeding on other people’s personal affairs with the heated exchanges between Curly Q. Brown and Sam Freeman. There’s even the requisite we’re-getting-married-no-we’re-not-now-we-will-again thing going on between Freeman and Powers.

It didn’t take long to like this movie better than “Eat My Dust!” It’s hard not to look at all the good movies Ron Howard has made since this one and not read some of that success back into “Grand Theft Auto,” but this movie just looks better than most Roger Corman sponsored low budget disasters. Is it Ron Howard’s influence as director that elevates this film above “Eat My Dust?” I don’t know, but the pacing, editing, and production values look better here than in its immediate predecessor. Nancy Morgan is a better female lead than Christopher Norris was in the first film, Howard’s character is more interesting, and Marion Ross’s gimmicky inclusion in the cast does give “Grand Theft Auto” a certain charm. About the only drawback I had with the film is Don Steele, a supposedly famous East Coast disc jockey in real life who goes overboard here. He should have stayed out of sight; he’s a geeky looking skinny dude with bad teeth in dark aviator glasses that adds little to the movie-except when he drives a car through a small house while giving a blow by blow description of the event.

Yep, “Grand Theft Auto” is a lot of fun. It’s not a great movie, not by any means, but it is a huge improvement over the tepid “Eat My Dust!” Extras on the DVD exceed the usual Corman disc release. You get a bunch of trailers, the usual Leonard Maltin/Roger Corman comments, a commentary track, and an interesting interview with Corman and Howard. Ron Howard always comes off as a nice guy, and he really comes across as someone who knows he owes Roger Corman a huge debt of gratitude for giving him the chance to direct his first film. “Grand Theft Auto” occasionally fails to click, but it’s worth a watch.

Grand Theft Auto Overview

Cross Romeo and Juliet with the Demolition Derby and you have Grand Theft Auto, Ron Howard’s directorial debut. Can a young runaway couple get hitched in Vegas before two sets of parents, a jealous boyfriend, a private dick, and a mob of bounty hunters catch them?

Grand Theft Auto Specifications

Ron Howard directs and stars in this Roger Corman-produced feature-length car chase, and Grand Theft Auto was made to appeal to the 12-year-old in all of us who likes to see stuff blow up. Poor boy Sam Freeman (Howard) and rich girl Paula Powers (Nancy Morgan) are in love, but Daddy disapproves. They steal the Powers family Rolls Royce for a Vegas elopement, Paula’s ex-fiancĂ© puts a bounty on her head, and from then on you can just forget about the plot and watch a zillion cars crash into each other, not to mention a couple of helicopters and an ice-cream truck. In many ways this is a quintessential PG-rated ’70s movie: plenty of wholesome fun involving the destruction of public and private property, and every now and then someone says the S word to liven things up. And yes, it is surprisingly satisfying to see a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud get smashed all to hell. The 25th-anniversary special-edition DVD includes interviews with Roger Corman and Ron Howard, audio commentary from Corman and Howard, and a reproduction of the original press pack. –Ali Davis

Find movies Rent from Blockbuster Online

February 3rd, 2010

One of my biggest problems is to see a movie at Blockbuster Online. Anyone, however, that with over 65,000 titles selected would be a problem? Well, not that all his films are the problem, see their films on the site. I think they tried to make it easier, but I still have trouble finding movies. Here are some tips to find the films should be much faster and easier.

Finding a way to rentBlockbuster web site is difficult, I would watch old movies, or should I look for on new releases. In the upper right is a small white box, you can not find the title of the movie, you can give an actor an actress remembered names in the search box and will be available with all the most popular songs that he / she was considered a.

With the categories of film (research), the three white boxes to find a movie that can be frustrating. But until you know whatWe are looking for, which is a breeze. The thing with these boxes is to be as detailed as possible. It is always possible to fill all three fields for movies. Think about how to save a file on your computer. You must go to the folder that you want to go to save it.

Always waiting for a movie to come and if you are on your tail states, there is a long wait for a movie. This could be a rough estimate of when the film could be resolved are available. ButThis is not so nice to see a problem I could always go to exchange the book on-line for the movie, I've been waiting for.

Another thing is after the rental of your local Blockbuster video online to exchange in-store rentals, it's usually a little 'time to pull them in my online rental queue. Not really a problem, because they still sent the next movie on my list for the next day. And 'just for some reason it takes a little' time to do so before theCoda.

Despite all these little problems is still a big blockbuster online rental online. But there is always room for improvement. Set this question believe that the customer receives a better user experience.

The Long Kiss Goodnight Review

The Long Kiss Goodnight still stands — after all these years — as one of my all-time favorite action films. It has the perfect balance of close-up action, big special effects, comedic interludes, crisp writing, and human drama. It’s important to bear in mind that this film was made before the spy-with-amnesia plot had become overused, before Samuel L. Jackson’s on-screen persona had become stereotyped, before women had been legitimized as action heroes, and before anyone else (that I can think of) had tried a male-female “buddy” movie! The principle characters are all multidimensional, athough the villains are a bit clicheed. But, in the process of delivering an outstanding action movie, Samantha/Charly (Geena Davis) and Mitch (Samuel L. Jackson) must each face and resolve a number of down-to-earth issues about their lives, role identities, and personal character — the kind we all eventually face, and which give this movie a humanity that’s rare in the action/buddy genre.

Unfortunately, myopic critics panned the film, so it didn’t produce well enough at the box office to warrant a sequel. But, don’t let its relative obscurity rob you of the opportunity to enjoy this trendsetting gem!

DAVIS IS A SCHOOLTEACHER WHOSE FORMER LIFE AS A LETHAL CIA ASSASSIN SUDDENLY CATCHES UP TO HER WITH A VENGEANCE. JACKSON IS THE DETECTIVE WHO HELPS HER UNCOVER THE PAST BEFORE IT BURIES THEM BOTH. TOGETHER THEY MAKE AN UNBEATABLE TEAM THAT WILL BLOW YOU AWAY.

The Long Kiss Goodnight Specifications

Geena Davis and her former husband, director Renny Harlin, attempted to pick up the pieces after the debacle of their box-office disaster, Cutthroat Island. What they came up with was this repulsive ode to American film noir, based on a script by Shane Black (Lethal Weapon) about an amnesiac schoolteacher (Davis) who searches for her true identity and finds she is actually a secret agent immersed in a deadly plot to topple the government. Mechanistic in its violence, obnoxious in its attitude, the film makes Davis, a once-promising actress, nothing more than a special effect. She tosses one to sadists in the audience by allowing her character to be beaten, punched unconscious, and tortured. The DVD release has optional full-screen and widescreen presentations, plus Dolby surround sound, theatrical trailer, cast information, optional French-language soundtrack and optional Spanish subtitles. –Tom Keogh

Foreign Correspondent Review

Joel McCrea known for his great work with directer Preston Sturges stars here with Laraine Day. McCrea plays it like no other can. They both give charming performances similar to the 2 actors in ‘Young and Innocent’. Hitchcock stages some wonderful scenes including a plane crash. If you love the ‘Hitchcock Way’ of film making, like myself, this is a must.

Foreign Correspondent Specifications

The first of Alfred Hitchcock’s World War II features, Foreign Correspondent was completed in 1940, as the European war was only beginning to erupt across national borders. Its titular hero, Johnny Jones (Joel McCrea), is an American crime reporter dispatched by his New York publisher to put a fresh spin on the drowsy dispatches emanating from overseas, his nose for a good story (and, of course, some fortuitous timing) promptly leading him to the “crime” of fascism and Nazi Germany’s designs on European conquest.

In attempting to learn more about a seemingly noble peace effort, Jones (who’s been saddled with the dubious nom du plume Hadley Haverstock) walks into the middle of an assassination, uncovers a spy ring, and, not entirely coincidentally, falls in love–a pattern familiar to admirers of Hitchcock’s espionage thrillers, of which this is a thoroughly entertaining example. McCrea’s hardy Yankee charms are neatly contrasted with the droll, veddy English charm of colleague George Sanders; Herbert Marshall provides a plummy variation on the requisite, ambiguous “good-or-is-he-really-bad” guy; Laraine Day affords a lovely heroine; and Robert Benchley (who contributed to the script) pops up, albeit too briefly, for comic relief.

As good as the cast is, however, it’s Hitchcock’s staging of key action sequences that makes Foreign Correspondent a textbook example of the director’s visual energy: an assassin’s escape through a rain-soaked crowd is registered by rippling umbrellas, a nest of spies is detected by the improbable direction of a windmill’s spinning sails, and Jones’s nocturnal flight across a pitched city rooftop produces its own contextual comment when broken neon tubes convert the Hotel Europe into “Hot Europe.” –Sam Sutherland

Into the Blue 2: The Reef Review

ok lets be honest, anyone who watched the first and still felt the need to watch the second didn’t do it for the story or the acting. They watched it for the beautiful scenery and of course the “beautiful scenery”. Anyone who loved how sexy the first one was will get their eye candy and then some. Not worth buying the dvd but if it comes out on blu ray I’ll definitely consider it.
